First Underclassman Declares

Almost two months prior to the deadline for underclassmen to declare for the NFL Draft, Purdue defensive end Ray Edwards is the first to toss his hat in the ring.

"It's time for me to go. Me and my family talked about it, and it's the best decision for me and my family," he said.

Edwards said he made the decision because he believes he will be taken in the first three rounds of the draft. He also was driven by the allure of making big money in the NFL, which he said would help his family in Cincinnati.

At 6-6, 270 pounds, Edwards could rise with great workouts. But there has to be a flag raised when a prospect declares so early. However, Edwards did wait until after the Boilermakers' finale vs. Indiana to announce his decision.

Other underclassmen who are as good as gone:
Reggie Bush, RB, USC
LenDale White, RB, USC
Darnell Bing, SS, USC
Haloti Ngata, DT, Oregon
Laurence Maroney, RB, Minnesota
Jason Hill, WR, Washington State (said to be gone if he rates as 1st/2nd rounder by draft commitee)

Key underclassmen leaning toward staying in school:
Vince Young, QB, Texas
Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame

Hey zoner. Thanks for the plug :-)

Reggie Bush is a sure lock for the number 1 or 2 overall pick.

Nice to see Vince Young staying in school (hopefully).

What about Chris Leak, think he should go pro?

Leak should definately stay for his senior year. He could have a big second year under Meyer ala Alex Smith at Utah.

I hope so. Leak was a TD Machine last year. Maybe he just needs more time to learn this spread offense crap.
